Maybe I shouldn’t complain because my government never did anything (never lost any rights, lol) but this guy seems very annoyed based on loose notions and ideas . For starters, the observed survival rate for Covid19 is not “over 99%” and even if it was, its not the only issue; it is contagious, it has many comorbilities, and the shitshow in europe probably scared other governments to death. People in government are just that, “people” and they make mistakes, and miscalculate . Getting so angry because a bunch of people got a novel virus wrong and are scrambling to keep a population alive is just beyond logical to me.

Yes, he is ranting that Sweden did it better than the rest by not doing a lock-down but they have between 5 and 10 times more death than other countries around it (they are ATM the 6th worst in term of death/population ) and it didn’t seem to really help the economy.
And even if there is still no vaccine, in the meantime we gained better knowledge on the virus and how to avoid its transmission and for tests, masks and hydroalcolic gel to be available which was not the case few weeks ago.
There was no protest or riots in France against the lockdown (which was way more restrictive than in Canada) which might seem strange because we like to fight for our rights and our freedom but its only 1/3 of our motto “ l iberté, é galité, fraternité” (liberty , equality, brotherhood) : f reedom without equality and cohesion can’t exist ; while people didn’t like it, we also understood the need for it and many were not happy because they fought that the relaxing of the lockdown on the 11th (after ~ 2 months) was too soon .
Better to stay at home for 2 months than in a hospital or a grave and endanger your family, friends, coworkers and hospital workers .

Yeesh. Not only are this guy’s opinions bad, his vocal cadence combined with his editing is like nails on a chalkboard.

T
he goal of the lockdowns was to slow the spread enough to not overwhelm the health care system. That was the goal, not minimize the number of people who got corona to as little as possible
. Viruses
and disease kill people all the time and we don’t lock down
society over it. There’s plenty of places in the US and elsewhere
the testing
centers and hospitals
are far from overwhelmed and they refuse to lift or lax the social distance measures.

Just give up your income for 2 months while still paying all your bills so you don’t get a virus you’re inevitably going to get and has a death rate of <2% and the average age of people dying from it is older than the average life expectancy.

Then the real issue is not the lockdown but that there is no social safety net, going back to work will not be better financially if you end up ill .
The excess death compared to last year is way more than 2% even after we did some social distancing and lockdowns (which at the same time limited the deaths due to driving for example) , it would only have been even way worse if we did continue business as usual : https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/04/21/world/coronavirus-missing-deaths.html
